Biography

Sara Savić works at the Scientific Institute of Veterinary Medicine “Novi Sad,” in the Department for Immunological, Serological, and Biochemical Testing, which includes the national reference laboratory in the field of veterinary medicine for the diagnosis of leptospirosis, Q fever, and Maedi-Visna virus infection. She primarily focuses on the diagnosis and surveillance of zoonotic diseases in animals, including vector-borne diseases.

She earned her doctoral degree at the University of Novi Sad, Department of Veterinary Medicine, with a dissertation on the identification of the causative agents of Lyme disease in dogs and ticks. Since then, she has expanded her work to other vector-borne diseases relevant to public health, including dirofilariasis, leishmaniasis, anaplasmosis, and others.

Sara has been applying the One Health approach since 2013, integrating it into practice and promoting it as a framework for addressing various public health challenges. She is one of the founders of the One Health Association of Serbia, a recurring organizer of the annual One Health Day in Serbia, and a member of the international Network for EcoHealth and One Health / European Chapter of EcoHealth International.
