3Simona Seravesi, Technical Officer (One Health) – WHO Regional Office for Europe

Simona Seravesi is a Social Scientist with over fifteen years of experience in the field of global health. Her expertise spans a broad spectrum, from meticulously analysing and crafting policy papers on critical public health issues to delving into the complexities of food systems and the One Health approach. Simona's impactful work has seen her closely collaborating with the Italian Government, including high-level engagements with the Prime Minister's Office during pivotal G8/G7 and G20 Summits, the World Health Organization, and various influential International Non-Governmental Organizations.

In 2020, Simona's expertise led her to be appointed as an Adviser on Global Health within the Prime Minister's Office in Italy, operating under the Sherpa G20 office. Here, she played a pivotal role in spearheading negotiations and fostering consensus among G20 members, particularly amidst the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Notably, her efforts contributed to positioning the One Health approach at the forefront of key documents endorsed by G20 members, including the G20 Leaders Declaration and the G20 Health Ministerial Declaration, as well as documents such as the Rome’s Declaration at the Global Health Summit organized by the European Commission and the Italian Prime Minister's Office.

Building on her extensive experience and dedication to advancing the One Health agenda, she assumed the role of Technical Officer (One Health) at the WHO Regional Office for Europe. In this capacity, she is instrumental in developing a comprehensive One Health strategy for the region, further bolstering Member States’ capacity to operationalize this crucial approach.

Simona's commitment to addressing pressing global health challenges extends to her work on food systems. Collaborating closely with the Department of Nutrition and Food Safety at the WHO Headquarters from 2016 to 2021, she has been at the forefront of developing strategies to ensure food security and nutrition policy development and implementation through a multi-sectoral approach. Her contributions, including the development of a resource guide in collaboration with FAO for the Decade of Action on Nutrition (2016-2025), have been instrumental in supporting policymakers, government decision-makers, and development partners worldwide.
